Our colleague Balázs Brucker spent 6 days in Lodz at the invitation of the Paradiplomacy Laboratory of the University of Lodz (Poland). He could finance this trip through the teaching and research fellowship of Waclaw Felczak Foundation Eternal. During his stay in Lodz, Balázs gave lectures at the university on the city diplomacy of Hungary, the advocacy of local governments in the EU, the EU policy of Hungary, and the Hungarian political system. He also presented the results of his research with Ilona Pálné Kovács entitled “The city diplomacy activities of Budapest and Warsaw between 2019 and 2023: Bypassing the central governments?”, as part of the new OTKA project (“Sub-national diplomacy in the international arena”). This research focused on activity of the city alliance “Pact of Free Cities”, launched in 2019 by the four capitals of the Visegrad Cooperation (“little Visegrad”), and examined cities finding their way in the international arena through the example of Warsaw and Budapest. In addition, he discussed the possibilities of cooperation between the Subnational Diplomacy Research Group of our Institute and the Paradiplomacy Lab of the University of Lodz.
