The activities of the Great Plain Research Department in the ESPON SEMIGRA project have been successfully completed. The research was motivated by the fact that the gendered out-migration result in a ‘deficit’ of young women in the peripheral, mostly underdeveloped rural regions of Europe. The international consortium studied the reasons for and effects of this phenomenon and the expectations of young people in 5 regions of 4 countries, as well as submitted proposals for gender-specific regional development strategies.
