The conference titled ‘Regional and Ethnoregional Parties in Europe and beyond‘ was held in Pécs at the Institute for Regional Studies on December 4th and 5th, 2025. The conference was jointly organized by the ELTE Institute for Regional Studies of the CERS and the Department of Political Science at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. The event took place as part of project number 146411 and was financed under the K-23 tender program, with support from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation.
The majority of the speakers attending the conference—mostly from Europe—came from the world of political science. The presentations touched upon the history, current situation, participation in national, European, and subnational elections, the relationship between these parties and civil society, as well as the paradiplomatic and protodiplomatic activities of regional and ethnoregional parties. At the end of the first day, a dinner following the high-quality presentations provided an opportunity for networking and thus laid the foundation for future joint research.
