The main library of IRS works in Pécs, at the Transdanubian Research Department. The library has more than 50,000 library documents; around 8,200 journals and 30,000 books, the remaining are scientific manuscripts, maps and electronic documents. The library subscribes 40 foreign – mainly in the areas of region and settlement development, regional studies – papers. Yearly book improvement is 500 volumes average, half of it in foreign languages. Border area research and documentation centres work in Győr (Hungarian–Slovakian–Austrian) and Békéscsaba (Hungarian–Serbian–Romanian).
